Paris to host the Olympic Games in 2024
Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially confirmed the city chosen to host the Olympic Games in 2024. The Games will be held in Paris, exactly a century after the city last staged the Summer Olympics. The IOC also announced that Los Angeles will host the Games in summer 2028.
Paris is one of the world’s most attractive cities and boasts a wide array of high-quality hotels, sports facilities and transport infrastructure throughout the surrounding region. It is also a creative, innovative city, offering a compelling combination of cultural heritage and modernity.
The announcement was celebrated on Wednesday evening with the unveiling of a giant set of interlaced rings in Trocadero square, with lights glittering on the Eiffel Tower in the background. The rings, measuring five by twelve meters, were lit up by spotlights at around 8pm, shortly after the IOC made the announcement.
“It’s a magical, unique victory,” said a jubilant Tony Estanguet, the three-time Olympic canoeing champion who co-led the Paris bid.
