Brexit: I live in the UK and often travel to France for work or personal reasons
Do I need to apply for a visa and a residence permit?
Until December 31, 2020, you and your family members were not required to hold a visa or residence permit. Only a passport or identity card was required.
As of January 1, 2021 and until September 30, 2021, British nationals and their family members will have the right to enter France if they are in possession of a valid passport and documents proving that they benefit from the withdrawal agreement, if they are not yet in possession of a residence permit or a travel document.
If your situation is not covered by the withdrawal agreement, you may have to obtain a short-stay visa unless you are a British citizen or a citizen exempt from the short-stay visa requirement. For any stay of more than 3 months, you will have to apply for a long-stay visa and, if necessary, a residence permit.
As of October 1, 2021, British nationals and their family members will be required to have a valid passport and, as the case may be, a residence permit or travel document to enter France.
